Peter Mandic was born
in Sydney, Australia and immigrated to Canada when he was twelve. Although he began
playing guitar when he was a young teen, strumming away on an old guitar his parents bought him for Christmas, it wasn’t
until his close friend Paul Bradshaw taught him how to play Stairway to Heaven that “it all changed”. Peter and Paul got together every week for ten years learning tunes by Neil Young, Pink Floyd and other
classic rock artists.
In
2000, Peter enrolled in the first of two songwriting courses at Toronto’s own Humber College. The courses
were conceived and taught by Orville Heyn, a brilliant singer and educator who has become Peter’s close friend and mentor,
singing background vocals on his self-titled debut CD. Orville also taught Peter
how to utilize the potential of his unique voice through a series of group singing lessons that focused on getting in touch
with one’s body.
Peter’s
songs are about real life struggles written in simple terms. Loss, violence,
friendship, apologies, women and wine all come to life in Peter’s songs. The
music is inspired by classic rock, but make no mistake, the twang of country, soothing melodies, and the hint of folk
blend together with a sometimes dark overtone.
Peter’s
career as a singer/songwriter/storyteller is just beginning. He has a passion
for his songs and delivers them with a haunting honesty straight to the heart. These
days he’s playing in and around Toronto at open stage venues and is a regular at the S.A.C. Open Stage at Holy Joe’s.
His
debut CD was produced by Toronto producer, Sean Baillie and features 11 original songs including a haunting instrumental.
While
Peter enjoys a fulltime job in the optical business, his passion for music has him spending every spare moment in his “guitar
room” writing, playing, singing, and sipping wine.
